There have been several incidents that have contributed to much of New Zealand residents to seek the benefits of a water filter for taps. Filtering water has become an essential part of day to day life given the landscape of drinking water in the country. The beautiful country has been marred by health scares due to the instability of drinking water in this mineral rich nation.
Havelock North
Havelock North saw the outbreak of Campylobacter which is a bateria associated with with animals. It can be fatal in the elderly or small children, this diarrhoea-based disease an havoc in the town of 14000 people in 2016. Over a third of the town fell sick with the disease that led to forty-five hospitalisations and four deaths. The runoff from animal farming infiltrated the water supply that caused sheep faeces contamination. This was caused by heavy rainfall, which is a danger to many local water supplies. A water filter adds a layer of protection to home drinking water by filtering most contaminants at the last point before drinking.
Queenstown
Popular resort town for travellers, Queenstown, was at the centre of a cryptosporidiosis outbreak in 2023. This parasitic disease causes aggressive diarrhoea by affecting the gastrointestinal tract. This outbreak led to the town being warned to boil water before consumption or use. On seeking clarity as to the reason of the outbreak an investigation suggested that human feral contamination was the source. During heavy rainfall it is common that sewage overflow or contamination can occur. As such, human fecal matter travelled undetected into the homes and resorts of Queenstown causing diarrhoea, vomiting, and stomach cramps.
Martinborough
In 2019 Martinborough experienced two notices to boil their water due to E.Coli contaminations in the town water supply. Monitoring infrastructure is essential to extracting such a common bacteria from water systems. E.Coli can enter the water system from a variety of different sources, as it is common in the gut of humans and other warm blooded animals. If water is not treated effectively then it can spread through consumption.
Onehunga Aquifer PFAS Contamination
In 2022 Auckland’s water utility shut down a treatment plant, Onehunga Water Treatment, after detecting levels of forever chemicals exceeding drinking water standards. While there is comprehensive work to be done to be completed by 2027, the finding underscores the reality that even treatment centres can get it wrong. A tap water filter adds another layer of protection to your homes the same as using a water jug - which is proven to reduce forever chemicals by 50% - 90%.
New Zealand Study
In 2021 research was published suggesting that nitrate contamination in New Zealand drinking water could be linked to forty deaths annually from bowel cancer. I bought the Flowpure water filter after seeing it on Instagram. The delivery took morethan 4 weeks, but the customer service was excellent. They always replied quickly, kept me updated, and even gave me a 10% discount because of the delay.
The filter was very easy to install. It comes with different tap adapters, so it fits most taps. The box also included two filter cartridges.
I wanted to use the filter for a while before writing this review. After using it, I can clearly see the difference. The old filter turned brown, which shows how much it filtered from our water. The water has a lot of chlorine. Since using Flowpure, the chlorine is much less. Before, I had to clean my kettle every 3–4 days because of chlorine build-up. Now, it stays much cleaner.
I am very happy with this product and highly recommend it. It is especially useful for families with babies or young children. Thank you, Flowpure, for making such a great product!

My 2 filters behaved differently.
The first filled up and stayed filled.
The second filter emptied when turned off.
Did not get a satisfactory answer on enquiring why from customer services.
Also took reading with a TDS meter and the reading was still the same as the ‘tap ‘ water, so to me it was not making any difference. Again not a satisfactory answer given. Disappointed.

I had been scrolling through social media.Facebook 2yrs ago and I came across this filter.
I thought well I need to try it because I cannot hook my Kangen machine up to the tap etc.

I’m over a year using flowpure tap filter and I can’t fault them. The water is so fresh and clear. It was so easy to fit and it’s very cost effective.
Only one thing can get a bit splashy when filling a water bottle.

Wow!. Couldn't believe the difference is taste and look to our water.
My children always complained that they could see bits in the water and that they wouldn't drink it because of the taste.

I previously had the other water filter model before upgrading to the stainless steel model. Both are equally good and does the same work. I find the stainless steel model more fashionable. The flowpure filter is a lifesaver. It saves on bulky filters which take up fridge space and is also instant. Waited over a week for the tap, but very easy to fit, we didn’t need to change any of the attachments just used as it came. No chlorine smell, daughter prefers the taste. However I’m not sure how effective it is at improving hard water as our see through kettle which I descaled upon attaching the flowpure tap, has already started to show signs of scale buildup. We were previous using a Phox water jug with softener filter which worked better. Let’s hope the health benefits are accurate as there’s no way of measuring that immediately! I do prefer not having to wait for the water to filter into a jug though 😊

Our whole house usually runs off rainwater, but because of the drought we are currently experiencing we've had to turn to mains water which is barely drinkable due to the taste of chlorine.
We immediately noticed the difference after installing the filter - which was sooo easy!
When we eventually get rain, we'll continue to use the filter as birds poop on our roof and we'd prefer not to drink that!
